Tollywood to perform Mruthyunjaya Homam to win over Yama
Saddened by the death of over 15 personalities in 15 months, Tollywood has taken to the spiritual recourse to win over Yama, the god of death.

The industry will be performing Mruthyunjaya Homam for three days from March 23 at Daiva Sannidhanam at the upmarket Film Nagar in Hyderabad. Daiva Sannidhanam is a place where a cluster of Gods and Goddesses are invoked. Built by the Film Industry, the temple is under the management of Visakha Sri Sarada Peetham of Swamy Swaroopanandanendra Saraswathi.
Till his death a few months ago, noted producer VB Rajendra Prasad (father of actor Jaganpathi Babu) was the trustee, looking after the temple’s day-to-day administration.
Tollywood has lost many famous personalities including actors, actresses, directors, producers and cameramen and technicians in the last two years. While promising stars like Uday Kiran committed suicide, veterans like Akkineni Nageswara Rao and D Rama Naidu and famous cinematographer A Vincent died of age. Ahuti Prasad and MS Narayana became victims of prolonged ailments. Music director Chakri’s death at a very young age late last year has shocked the industry more.
“The industry lost 15 famous faces in the last 15 months. When we expressed our feelings of depression before the seer, he volunteered to perform Maha Mruthyunjaya Homam ”, said Movie Artists Association (MAA) honorary president M Murali Mohan.
Swamy Swaroopanandenda told Mirror, “Amrutha Pasupatha Maha Mruthyunjaya Homam wards off evils. It is mainly meant to stop the unnatural and untimely deaths”. Tollywood is known for beliefs and sentiments. Swaroopanandendra Swamyji has a strong following in Tollywood circles. During his stay at the branch of his Peetham at Daiva Sannidhanam, the seer has a large number of Tollywood families as visitors.
