Mixed reactions in Belagavi to budget proposals

March 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Suresh C. Angadi, MP, has dubbed the budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday as “disappointing” and “lacking in vision”.

He said that the Chief Minister, who also holds the finance portfolio, had failed to rise to the occasion and announce concrete measures on the long-pending demands of the people. Instead, he focussed only on the issues dear to the Congress. Mr. Angadi said the Chief Minister did not make an announcement on the creation of new taluks. There was no impetus for expeditious growth of Belagavi, even though the city had been projected to be developed into the second capital of the State. The repeated promises of establishment of an IT Park was forgotten.

Belagavi district Janata Dal (Secular) general secretary Yusuf A. Athani said instead of providing relief, the budget came as shock due to increase of a 1 per cent tax on petroleum fuel and also the increase in VAT , which would result in price rise. District Congress Committee president Laxmi R. Hebbalkar welcomed the budget.
