A complaint for extortion of Rs 10 lakhs was lodged against a former aide of Abdul Wahab, Attikuzjama alias Jehangir Mulla, at Ellisbridge police station on Thursday.

AHMEDABAD: A complaint for extortion of Rs 10 lakhs was lodged against a former aide of Abdul Wahab, Attikuzjama alias Jehangir Mulla, at Ellisbridge police station on Thursday.
The complainant, Rakurullah Khan, an estate broker and resident of Prime Centre in Mirzapur, has alleged that Jehangir Mulla threatened him with dire consequences after brandishing a gun and knife and demanded Rs 10 lakhs from him.

Police sources said the complaint was later transferred to city crime branch for further investigation. “We are verifying the facts of the complaint. The accused has a criminal past had been accused in several cases of murder and kidnapping in the 1990’s.
According to the complaint made about three months ago, Mulla, who now is into the business of building construction intercepted Khan near Adishwar Petrol Pump in Mirzapur area of the walled city, and told him that he would have to pay protection money.
“According to Khan, Mulla also tried to intimidate him by saying that he had committed murders and kidnapping for former gangster Abdul Wahab and if Khan didn’t pay protection money he would meet the same fate,” said inspector of Ellisbridge police station Nirav Vyas.
Khan stated in his complaint that on 6 March, Mulla again intercepted him near MJ Library in Ellisbridge area, pulled out a gun and asked for Rs 10 lakh as protection money.

Ellisbrige police officers said Khan got frightened and sent his family to his in-laws home in Jamnagar.
According to the complaint, Mulla followed Khan wherever he went, and on March 12, again accosted Khan near Capital Commercial Centre.
“Khan stated that Mulla took out a knife and said that his time was over and if he didn’t pay by the evening, he would face the consequences,” said an Ellisbridge police officer.
Commissioner of police, Shivanand Jha, said the complaint was transferred to city crime branch for proper investigation.
Deputy commissioner of crime branch Dipen Bhadran said they spoke to the complainant and are hunting for Jehangir Mulla. “Mulla has criminal complaints of a serious nature lodged against him and in no case will an extortionist be allowed ground in the city,” Bhadran added.
