Wheelchair-bound student forced to write exam on third floor

“We were told by the examination staff to get a permission from the district education officer along with a medical certificate from a government hospital. When we approached the civil hospital at Sola on Friday, the medical staff insisted on bringing the patient to the hospital before issuing a medical certificate. They did not consider the medical history records,” said Jinal’s father Dinesh Shah.

Her doctor Dr Kuntal Gajjar who accompanied Jinal to the examination centre lamented the same. “She has had four surgeries and had to be motivated to take her examinations. But to get such a reaction from the examination staff is really shocking,” he said.

Without left with any option, Dinesh Shah has decided to repeat the process of lifting his daughter to her examination centre on Saturday too when she would be appearing for her Statistics examination. Out of four, the remaining two examinations are at a different centre in Gurukul.
