CHENNAI: A software engineer died after falling from the seventh floor of a nine-storey building of a software firm on MGR Salai in Kanthanchavadi on Thursday night. Police said V Arvind, 25, of Vellore was working a system analyst at the firm since 2013.
At 8.30pm on Thursday, after finishing his shift, he was about to leave when he reportedly fell off the seventh floor and was found bleeding heavily from his head.
His office was located on the ninth floor. A few employees rushed him to a nearby private hospital from where he was shifted to Government Royapettah Hospital. Police are investigating all angles, including the probability of suicide.
Arvind of Ranipet was staying with his friends at Thiruvanmiyur. He was also pursuing an MBA in correspondence. Preliminary inquiries with his friends revealed that he was stressed trying to balance his job and studies.
“He hardly had any friends and was always found poring over books,” said an investigating officer quoting his friends. “He never shared his problems with his friends. He was always busy with his project work,” he said. His roommates told police that he was taking medicines for blood pressure.
Arvind’s family was looking for a bride for him. One of his friends said that he had paid 7 lakh for his course and was keen on performing well. “Arvind had told his friends that he was finding it difficult to cope up with his studies and work simultaneously,” said a police officer.
Police searched his room, but did not find anything to suggest that it was a suicide. Police said the railings at the office building were 4-ft tall, thus making an accidental fall unlikely. Police sent the body for postmortem to Government Royapettah Hospital and later handed it over to his parents.
