Casey O'Halloran and Bridget O'Connor, best friends since high school, have always been crafty.
"Our motto is that we have big-league decorating dreams on a rookie salary," said O'Connor, 26, now teaching at the same Chicago-area high school that she and O'Halloran attended as teenagers.

One of their easier and most affordable crafts is a seasonal wreath for St. Patrick's Day.
"We walked into a dollar store and bought a bag of (foam) shamrocks and hot-glued them to the wreath, and we were done in 15 minutes," O'Connor said.
The shamrocks and wicker wreath cost just $4, she added.
Substitute those shamrocks with foam eggs for Easter, flowers for Mother's Day, stars for the Fourth of July ... you get the idea. It's a craft that can add personality to your home for just about any occasion, O'Connor said.
We took the opportunity to ask O'Connor if she had any advice about our growing collection of florist vases. We love them, but they all look alike.

"Geometric designs are really popular, so (putting) some painter's tape onto the vase to create a geometric design of your own and adding gold paint, or gold glitter on top of some paint, could really give it a new personality," she suggested.
We're on it.
