CHANDIGARH: A 21-year-old youth got accidentally locked inside Karnataka University's Technical Educational Institute in Sector 8 on Thursday. He was finally rescued after two hours thanks to timely intervention by police.
The youth, Mohit Kalyan - a final year B.Sc student of Karnatka University - went to the institute to give his exams around 6.30 pm.
After his exam, he went to another room on the first floor to study.
As it was closing time, the peon of the institute, Deepak, conducted a routine check locking the gates from outside. As the room in which Mohit was studying was checked earlier by the peon, he locked the premises and left for home.
Realizing that he has been locked inside the institute, Mohit first tried calling for help. As his cries fell on deaf ears, he decided to call the police.
Once the call was made to police helpline, three constables arrived at the spot and started making efforts to rescue the boy. In the meantime, Mohit had already called a few people from the institute and managed to get the peon's number.
The peon was informed about Mohit after which he rushed to the institute and unlocked the shutter. Police after checking the premises took a written statement from Mohit about the incident before letting him go.
"Thank God I called the police for help. I panicked for a while, but everything just got fine," said a relieved Mohit.
