Life is not a bed of roses, goes the famous saying. But for these three siblings, they don’t know anything other than suffering and hardships.

For 8-year-old Praneetha and her siblings R. Balaraj (6) and R. Prabhas (4), residents of Kunta in Kohir mandal of Medak district, having a single parent isn’t the hardest part. They having to fend for themselves and depending on their neighbours for a meal or two are. Their mother Lakshmi had abandoned them a few years ago and their father, who works as a daily-wage labourer, leaves home in the morning only to return in the evening. In the meanwhile, the three children, who are almost on their own, live at the mercy of their neighbours who give them the leftover food.

D. Anjaiah, Mandal Education Officer (MEO), visited Kohir to learn about the plight of these three siblings and help them get a decent life. As part of the effort, they were admitted in an upper primary school and given uniform and books so that they can at least get a meal a day in the school. “They were dependent on their neighbours to feed them. If there was no leftover food, they had to go hungry. But now they can have a meal a day at the school and also study,” said Mr. Anjaiah.

Shaik Parveen, Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), has accepted to sanction them Anthyodaya card so that they can get 35 kg rice every month.

Mr. Anjaiah felt that they need more support and assured that he would do everything possible to help them.
