“Instead of just a 12-plus certification, a 15-plus rating is under consideration in the new bill. This will make it more specific as we will then be giving an age-wise classification and would also like to provide information to parents as to which rating caters to which age group. With this new certification, we will have four ratings: U, 12- plus, 15-plus and A,” informed Dr Shravan Kumar, CEO, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

In fact, certain administrative mechanisms are being considered to make film certification more transparent, user-friendly, and quick by
switching to the online medium for submitting applications and processing. “The system is being changed. We are working to make certification more efficient.

Everything is being automated so there is no intermediary and one can get the status of an application online. Ratings will be a little more prominent with the right kind of colour coding. We started working on it four-five months back and now we should be ready with the changes within a couple of weeks,” said Kumar.
