The Peshawar High Court on Thursday issued notices to the vice chancellor and registrar of University of Peshawar to submit their written comments within seven days over the case of PTI MNA Murad Saeed seeking his bachelor’s degree.
The notices were issued by a bench of Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Musarrat Hilali while hearing Murad Saeed’s writ petition.
Saeed’s counsel Muzammil Khan informed the court his client was a regular student of the four-year BS programme at the department of environmental sciences from 2005-09. Khan added Murad passed all eight semesters but the university has yet to issue his degree.
Khan added the department’s chairman issued the course-completion certificate on November 26, 2009. He added his client waited for his degree from UoP and at various stages approached the competent authority for it, but was told it would be sent to his home address.
After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the VC and registrar of UoP to submit their written comments within seven days.
“Non-issuance of degree and keeping the petitioner to wait further is mala fide intention in law as well as without any justification. Other students similarly placed have already been issued degrees in due course of time,” states the petition.
Saeed claims some student federations are maligning his reputation and pressuring the university not to issue his degree for reasons best known to them. “I never used pressure tactics to obtain my degree from the university, rather applied for my degree as a normal graduate. I have every right to obtain [it] because I was a regular student and passed each semester,” claims Saeed.
