Former Law Minister M.C. Nanaiah on Thursday resigned from the post of the chairman of an expert committee constituted by the State government to suggest amendments to the existing laws to prevent abuse of sexual violence on women and children.

Mr. Nanaiah submitted his resignation letter to Home Minister K.J. George.

The committee was constituted by the State government to look into laws related to sexual assault cases and enhancement of punishment for the crime.

“I, for compelling personal reasons, tendered my resignation to the chairmanship of the committee, to come into effect from today,” Mr. Nanaiah said.

Three days ago, Mr. Nanaiah said the committee is expected to submit its report along with its recommendations to the Sate government in the next three months.

He criticised the BBC for airing documentary “India’s Daughter” and said it aimed at tarnishing India’s image globally.
