Mild tension prevailed for a brief period at Nagaram under the Fifth Town police station limits when the poor and shelter-less under the banner of the CPI (M) erected flags to construct temporary houses, on Wednesday.

The activists who gathered in a good number tried to resist the police when the latter were about to remove the erected material on a piece of land under Survey Number 2145; 2164; and 2165 belonging to Government.

As the police and the revenue staff were busy with arrangements for Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s visit to Sadasivanagar mandal tomorrow there was no immediate action from the official side.

Meanwhile, talking to The Hindu , the CPI (M) town secretary, M. Govardhan said that over 300 homeless families went to the said land to own it, to construct houses amid resistance from the officials. In fact, pattas were given earlier to eligible households, but they were cancelled when Mr. Ramanjaneyulu was the Collector for reasons not known, he said.

Though the same plots were being sold by influential persons officials remained silent, said Mr. Govardhan.

He said that his party would launch an agitation if the authorities failed to sanction pattas to the eligible households.
