Debate witnesses war of words

March 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hyderabad:

There were sharp exchanges between YSR Congress and ruling Telugu Desam party members counterparts in the Assembly on Wednesday during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address. The acrimony was more intense particularly between B. Rajendernath Reddy (YSRC) and Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy. At one stage the latter asked the former to wind up his speech so that there was a relief in ‘headache’.

Though a BC, Mr. Krishnamurthy said, he had won six times from Dhone and this time he did not contest from this place and therefore Mr. Reddy could win. At this the latter said although the Deputy CM was a BC he travelled in a Mercedes Benz while he being a zamindar moved in Innova. Mr. Reddy further said his grand father was a sarpanch decades before the TDP was formed.

In a speech lasting over an hour, the YSRC member took frequent pot-shots at the Chandrababu Naidu government. Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao objected to the member taking jibes and said he would not be allowed to malign the Telugus. At this Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy got up and said one could speak anything under the sun. “You can’t decide what is to be spoken”, he said and accused the Speaker of not acting in a neutral manner.

The YSRC member ridiculed the amount of time taken by the Chief Minister in preparation of the master plan for the capital region. He also expressed concern about the government’s motive behind the plan to divert water from Godavari river to Krishna through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Vishnu Kumar Raju (BJP) said the Modi government was committed to development of State and would provide funds promised. He asked the government to clarify people’s doubts over the Pattiseema project.
