A four month-old baby boy died after vaccination at Jaggaiahpet Sub-Centre III, in the district on Wednesday.
The couple, Orusu Sambasiva Rao and Bhulakshmi, brought the boy to the centre, where the baby was given vaccination. He died in few hours.
On receiving information Collector Babu.A, directed District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr. R. Naga Malleswari and the Revenue officials to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Babu said the vaccination was given to four more babies of the same age group and they were doing well. An inquiry has been ordered to know the exact cause of death, said the Collector.
Dr. Malleswari said ANM K. Padma administered DPT vaccine to the baby boy at 10.45 a.m. and he died at 2.45 p.m. The weight of the baby was 5.75 kgs and was in good health when vaccinated, she said. “The vaccine was manufactured in April 2014 and the expiry date is March 2016. We preserved the samples of the vial,” said the DM&HO.
Post-mortem
Mr. Babu said that a team of doctors comprising of an immunization specialist from Hyderabad, paediatrician, pathologist and other members will conduct post-mortem on the body on Thursday. “It is very unfortunate that the boy died after vaccination. We collected the details of the babies who are given the same drug in the sub-centre,” said the Collector.
