GURGAON: Officials remain tightlipped about throwing open the Sikanderpur flyover to public, despite claiming that construction will be completed next week. Once functional, the flyover, part of the 16-lane makeover of the HUDA sector road, will ease the traffic choke point near City Court in Sikanderpur, allowing vehicles coming from Mehrauli a smooth passage to Cyber City.
A senior official from IL&FS Engineering, the contractor, informed TOI that the last two tasks - relocating a travel operator and redoing the footpath near Phase 2 Rapid Metro station - will be completed by next week.
"The flyover is ready for use. Shifting a travel operator near Phase 2 Metro station was a major concern that has been dealt with," he said.
The official added inaugurating the flyover is a decision to be taken by HUDA and DLF.
TOI also noticed that no streetlight fixtures have been installed along the entire 680m length of the flyover. The foot of the flyover has also turned into a makeshift parking lot, adding to traffic chaos at the junction. A DLF spokesperson said, "We are getting LED fixtures for the flyover, till then temporary arrangements will be in place."
HUDA administrator Anita Yadav said the particulars of the project were being taken care of by engineers, in consultation with DLF. "I've asked the superintendent engineer to inspect the status of the flyover on Thursday. Only after that will we deliberate on its inauguration," she said.
