In the rape and murder case of Hyderabad techie Esther Anuhya, witness told the court on Wednesday that through DNA tests he established that the accused, Chandrabhan Sanap, was with the victim on January 5, 2014.
The witness was a chemical analyst who was assigned to ascertain if the body found was of the victim’s, and establish a link between the accused and the death of the victim.
The witness told the court that samples from a trolley bag found in possession of Sanap had traces of the victim’s DNA. The samples included the techie’s spectacles and her identity card.

The Assistant Director at the Mumbai Forensic Laboratory further deposed that there were no traces of Sanap’s DNA on the victim’s samples that were sent for examination. The samples included the techie’s scarf, strands of hair and clothes. A vaginal swab sent for analysis did not have traces of semen or Sanap’s DNA samples.
The police claimed that on January 5 last year, Sanap dragged the victim behind the bushes along the service road of the Eastern Express Highway and murdered her between 5.30 am and 6.30 am.
Offering to drop her off at her hostel, Sanap, according to the police had abducted the software engineer from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on his bike, took her to a lonely place, raped her and tried to burn her body. The police found the decomposed and charred body of the techie near the Highway in the bushes on January 16, 2014.
The police said the techie’s bags were found in Sanap’s possession when he was arrested.
To establish the identity of the victim, the analyst told the court that he took the DNA from the victim’s bone to compare with her father’s blood samples.
