PUNE:
Swine flu claimed three more lives in Pune since Tuesday, taking the total number of casualties from the infection in the city to 66 this year. Of these, 50 people have died in Pune and 16 in Pimpri Chinchwad.
Currently, 20 patients are critical at different hospitals in the city. A total 21 fresh cases were recorded in the city on Wednesday.
Forty-three-year-old
Rajesh Kadam of Pune-Satara Road developed influenza-like illness on March 2, but delayed seeking medical care.
He was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on March 6 after his condition worsened. He was later put on ventilator support and developed swine flu-induced pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome and kidney failure. He died at 4.20am on Wednesday.
Seema Sharma (45) from Pimpri developed influenza-like illness on January 31. She had travelled to Deharadun the same day. She was initially admitted to
Lotus hospital in Pimple Saudagar. Her throat swab sent to a private designated laboratory had tested negative for
H1N1. After her condition worsened, she was moved to
KEM hospital and put on ventilator support on February 16. Her second throat swab tested positive for the infection on February 24. Sharma died around 12.15pm on Wednesday.
Nasim Kadri (50) from Paranda village in Osmanabad district developed influenza-like symptoms on February 22. She initially sought treatment at a hospital in Barshi and moved to
Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital in Pune on February 24. A patient of hypertension and diabetes, Kadri passed away around 8.10pm on Tuesday.
