Indrajith has a lot to look forward to this year. He will be seen playing the lead in a very different kind of film — debutant Vishnu’s film titled Adoorum Thoppilum Allandoru Bhasiyum. He will also be part of two of the much anticipated multi-starrers of the year — Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Double Barrel and comedian Nadirsha’s debut directorial Amar Akbar Antony where he will team up with Prithviraj and Jayasurya after the box office hit Classmates.
The actor has also been signed in for an offbeat project which will have Malayali immigrants in Europe as central characters.
Shoot is currently going on for Vishnu’s film. The film has an interesting premise, which is why he took it up, says Indrajith. “The central character Bhasi in the film is a non-entity, unlike the renowned people who share his name. The film is a satire and a full-on entertainer with the most interesting script.” The story sees a boy who elopes to Mumbai following a quarrel with his family. Years later, on learning about his father’s death, he returns to find that he has inherited his father’s movie theatre, Bhasi Talkies. The film is all about how he manages to run the theatre.
The film portrays three phases of Bhasi’s life, set in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. “Each age will have a corresponding backdrop. Mumbai of the 90s will be featured. My look too will change accordingly,” says Indrajith. Meanwhile, his next release will be Lijo Jose’s Double Barrel, for which he has teamed up with Prithviraj. Indrajith specifies that Double Barrel is a gangster comedy and not at all a violent film as it might appear to be. “The characters might look menacing in the posters, and it might look like a hard core action film, but it’s all done through humour. Kids can watch the movie, actually,” he says.
And how does he feel being a part of Lijo Jose’s fourth consecutive film? “Lijo is confident in me as an actor and I feel I’m lucky that way. I hope the association carries on!” As the hero of Lijo’s first film Nayakan, was the actor aware of the spark in him? “Of course. Nayakan had a new subject and the way of narration was novel. Kathakali is a violent art form but to combine Kathakali with action is something else altogether. He thinks different and that reflects in all his films.”
Coming up next for Indrajith is Amar Akbar Antony, in which he will be acting with Prithviraj and Jayasurya again. The actor also has plans to do an offbeat film later in the year — Rajeev Vijayaraghavan’s Alayam. “The film is set entirely in Europe and the story is based on middle class Indian immigrants in Europe. I play one such character. Nedumudi Venu also has a prominent role in it,” he says.
