The property cell of the city crime branch on Monday arrested Khar based bookie Anil Bhatia having links with inter state betting racket. Bhatia police said was accepting bets on Tuesday’s the ongoing ICC world cup match played Ireland and India.

MUMBAI: The property cell of the city crime branch on Monday arrested Khar based bookie Anil Bhatia having links with inter state betting racket. Bhatia police said was accepting bets on Tuesday’s the ongoing ICC world cup match played Ireland and India.
Acting on the specific tips the Property cell which in 2013 arrested 29 bookies and punters including actor Vinrendra alias Vindoo Dara singh and Chennai Super King’s principal Gurunath Meiyeppan, raided a flat in Khar and arrested Bhatia and seized 18 cell phones, 63,000 cash and a laptop through which he was accepting bets.
Preliminary investigations shows that he was in constant touch with Kolkatta based bookie PC Kolkotta, Mandi from Delhi and Praveen Kedia from Rajkot and Amrutsar from Punjab. Bhatia was produced before the court which granted him cash bail of Rs 20,000.
Meanwhile the social service branch also arrested Paresh Bhatia, a well known bookie in 2013 case. In 2013 police had raided a flat in Borivli and had arrested Mukesh Shah, Dinesh alias Diu and had seized mobiles, laptop and sim cards used to accept bets.`` Since than Bhatia was absconding and now when the ICC matched was played, he emerged out and we have arrested him.’’ Said an officer
