Preparations on for Grand Tamil Festival in Bay Area

new_fetna_logo_final copySAN JOSE, CA: Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) is organizing its 28th Annual Tamil Convention “FeTNA 2015″in San Jose, City National Civic Auditorium on July 2-5. FeTNA is an umbrella organization of Tamil Sangams that function within the North American Continent including USA and Canada. The event is hosted by FeTNA along with Bay Area Tamil Manram (BATM), San Francisco.

Members of Tamil Sangam from all over US are participating in the grand preparation for this event along with several other volunteers who are actively participating alongside Sangam members to make it a grand success. This year’s event celebrates two main events. First is Centenary celebration (100 years) of “Tamizhisai Aringer” V.P.K. Sundaramand and second is the celebration of 125 years of great composer Papanasam Sivan. It will be a great honor to Bay area, which is home to many music lovers, to host this event recognizing the two great scholars.

This year’s annual convention has 80 hours of programs spread over three days, catering to a wide range of age groups from kids, teens, adults to elders. The categories of events are diverse enough to attract people of varied interests like literature, drama, dance, folk music, classical music, light music, entrepreneur forum, children’s program and many more. Silicon Valley, being the land of new inventions and startups, is the perfect place to have an Entrepreneur Forum solely dedicated to Entrepreneurs.

This is one of the highlights for the Convention and this Forum will host various panel discussions and workshops on entrepreneurship and startups, where different topics will be covered and are geared towards both novice and experts in the field.

There is startup pitch competition geared towards Startup ideas and there is Tamil American Pioneer Awards session to honor acclaimed Entrepreneurs. Leading entrepreneurs and special guest from India have been invited as Guest Speakers in the event. (http://tef2015.org/)

Another scheduled event is Medical Session, which will give information on Continuing Medical Education on Medical Professions in USA and Canada. This is targeted for Indian medical professionals who are aspiring to purse their medical career or planning to advance in their career.

For Light Music Session, ‘Vijay TV’ fame ‘Bennet and the Band’ from Chennai have been invited to perform along with Cine Singers Haricharan, Roshini and Maghizhini (Kumki)and Super singers – Divakar, Pragathi & Pooja. Folk Music Session will be led by ‘Parai Isai’ Manimaran & Magizhini Manimaran of ‘Buddhar Kalai Kuzhu’ along with a workshop on Parai Isai. Dr Sowmya will be presiding over Classical Music Session named ‘Tamizhisai’ based on Papanasam Sivam’s compositions and music workshop for kids.

A classical drama named “Sivagamiyin Sabatham” will be staged by members of Bay Area Drama enthusiasts. It will showcase one of the finest literary works of Kalki.

Speech and Literature Sessions include debate session by Dr Sumathi Sri who will be heading ‘Vivaatha Kalam’ and a talk on Environment by Mr Sundarrajan. Other speakers include Writer Poomani who is recipient of 2014 Sagithiya Academy Award and Dr Margaret Bastin – Principal, Kalai Kaviri College, Trichy who will talk on Kavingner V.P.K. Sundaram. There will be an ancient Tamil literary discourse by renowned speakers Dr V.S. Irajam, Dr Sudalaimuthu Palaniappan and Judge Vaideygi Herbet.

Prof. Abdul Kadhar will lead ‘Kaviyarangam’ along with members of poetic interests. This will showcase the talent of Bay Area poem lover community.

Kids Session includes forums for harnessing the youth talent in Leadership and Communication Skills along with Quiz Competitions. There will be also a Thirukurral competition targeted for ages 5 to 18.

Cine celebrities that are expected to take stage include ‘I’ movie actress Amy Jackson. Few other celebrity actors are expected to join.
