: A team of MBA students of the Kannur University and faculty members led by university Vice Chancellor M.K. Abdul Khader is currently on a visit to the German town of Calw as part of a student and faculty exchange programme.

The team of students and faculty members were in the German town as part of the exchange programme between the Kannur University and Riedliengen University and its sister institution, Calw University in Germany, the Kannur University Department of Management Studies (DMS) informed here on Tuesday.

The DMS said the visit of the university team headed by Dr. Khader coincided with the celebration of the 200th birth centenary of German missionary and linguist Hermann Gundert in his birthplace of Calw. Dr. Gundert had stayed at Thalassery for several years and published the first Malayalam dictionary. The Kannur University and the German universities had signed a memorandum of understanding in 2004 for the student-faculty academic exchange programme. A team from Germany had visited here last year as part of the project, the DMS informed.

The department said Dr. Khader handed over the Malayalam version of ‘Siddhartha’, a novel written by Nobel laureate late Hermann Hesse, grandson of Dr. Gundert, to the Director of the Hermann Hesse Museum in Calw. The Vice Chancellor had also addressed teachers and students of the Hermann Gundert School in Calw later, the DMS said.

This was the fifth exchange programme from both sides. University officials said during the month-long stay, the team would attend international seminars and workshops. Visits to major industrial units are also scheduled as part of the project. The students delegation for the assignment in Germany is selected on the basis of a written test conducted at the Palayad, Mangattuparamba,  Neeleswaram, Parassinikadavu and Kasaragod MBA centres of the university.

DMS faculty members U. Faisal, P.T. Raveendran, students Lipin Sebastian, Akhil Mohan, Sreejesh, Bineetha Joseph, Vivek Valsan and A Sripriya are in the team visiting Germany.
