Unheralded gospel singer Takesure Zamar Ncube has been nominated for this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards to be held on May 9 at Royal Garden Hotel in London. Zamar will be battling it out with four other gospel musicians – Joseph Madziyire, Lloyd Tevedzayi, Pride Priestly and Mkhululi Bhebhe – for the International Gospel Music Artiste Award.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Zamar – who is popularly known locally for his song “Prayer for Zimbabwe” – said he was overwhelmed that his works have been recognised internationally.

“I feel greatly honoured and I thank God for this recognition. It means a lot to me and the Worship Addicts team. This is our first ever award nomination since we stormed into the music industry,” he said.

Zamar said although his first nomination has been on international platform, he prays and hopes that one day his music will be rewarded locally.

“I just pray that time will come when people who are here, that is home, will appreciate and recognise us because I believe almost every artiste treasures the recognition he gets home first and then the international scene. I believe that the time will come when we will be recognised here,” he said.

With a minimum of two “worship only” albums per year, Zamar has got a total of seven albums to date with two praise albums.

Also on the ZAA nominees list is mbira queen Hope Masike, whose work ethic saw her traverse the globe dishing out mbira vibes from Asia to America and Europe. Zimbabwe-born Grammy winner Brian Soko, the man behind Beyonce and Jay Z’s song “Drunk in Love”, is vying for the International Music Artiste award.

Tinashe Sibanda and Jusa Dementor are among other artistes who have also been nominated in the same category.

Canada-based Tevedzayi has been nominated twice with the other nomination being for the People’s Choice Award.
