Echoing the glory of past

Celebrity guest Sharman Joshi and famed band, ‘Faridkot’ thrilled the students at ‘Lasya 2015’, the cultural fest of Center for Management Studies (CMS), Jain University. The fest brought together students from nearly 15 colleges, who took part in around 20 competitions. This time, the theme was ‘Darbar’, which echoed the opulence of the Mughal courts. Every competition in the event was tailored to highlight the various parts of the Mughal rule in India.

Students brought out their best to the table in various competitions like solo dance, fashion parade, western acoustic music and many more. They dressed resplendently in ‘anarkalis’, ‘ghagra cholis’ and kurtas reminiscent of the fashions of the Mughal Empire. The ramp walk combined haunting melodies with a backdrop that evoked royalty.

“It really feels like I am back in time. The fashion show displayed the beauty of Indian styles, which was both grandiose and elegant. I like the fact that the costumers selected are extremely authentic and stylish,” said Nishtha, a student of CMS.

Students waited with bated breath for the Bollywood group dance. The judge for the event was ace actor Sharman Joshi, who was welcomed with cheers from students. Each performance was better than the other and after a tough competition, St Joseph’s College of Commerce was announced as the winner.

Sharing his views on being a part of the event, Sharman said, “It feels wonderful to be a part of this vibrant energetic crowd. Being a part of this event took me back to college days. I used to take part in many inter-collegiate events and I know the energy and effort it takes to make these events successful.”

Famed band ‘Faridkot’ performed their popular tunes and with the audiences singing their heart out. The students of Christ University were ultimately crowned as the overall winners, after their fabulous performance in the competitions.

Said Sai Tarun, a student, “We hardly get to meet students of other colleges. It is only in events like these that we come face to face with the others. I enjoyed the performance of ‘Faridkot’. It helped me relax.”
