VMC opposition councillor alleges irregularities in lease of plot
VADODARA: Former leader of opposition of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Congress corporator Chirag Zaveri has alleged that a plot owned by the civic body was given on temporary rent to a company that was running an industrial unit on the plot.
Zaveri raised the issue in a letter to the VMC commissioner. He said that in the name of a temporary lease, the plot was rented out for three months to the unit and a proposal for extending the lease was also being considered.
Zaveri said that the current lease was at a rate of Rs 15,000 a month.
Zaveri alleged that the rental was too low. He said that as per the VMC's rates Rs 100 should be charged per square meter as the rent per day. The total area of the plot was 464 square meters and the rent for a month amounted to Rs 13,92,000 against only Rs 15,000 being paid by the unit.
Zaveri added that it was also wrong to rent out plots for an industrial unit. He said that this could be done only for temporary exhibitions, funfairs and similar activities.
