A van carrying cash of a bank headed from Chandigarh to Rajpura was looted by armed dacoits in Sector 85 on Monday. The dacoits numbering 8-9 first robbed the van at gunpoint and then emptied its cash chests containing Rs 1.34 crore before abandoning it a few kilometres away in Saneta village.
The masked dacoits arrived in a Fortuner, which was later found abandoned, and blocked the Axis Bank’s van path. Then they used sharp edged weapons to damage the van and scare its five occupants into coming out.
Guns from the two security guards were snatched and later dumped in a nearby village. Nobody was injured in the incident, and not a single shot was fired. Police suspect it was an inside job, but are probing various angles.
