Barrow winger Lee Haney has been air-lifted to hospital after damaging his neck during his side's match against Keighley in the third round of the Challenge Cup at Craven Park.

Haney scored the opening try of the match, which the Raiders went on to win 38-22, but needed emergency medical help following a collision in the second half.

Medics treated the winger for more than 15 minutes on the pitch before he was carried off and the air ambulance arrived shortly after the full-time hooter.

Barrow coach Paul Crarey told the North West Evening Mail: “He’s got lacerations on the back of his head and he’s got some swelling around his neck, and he is getting a little bit of pain in his back.

“It was a very strong collision between two of our boys, Josh Ward got up and Lee stayed down and there were real concerns. Hopefully he will be okay.”

Raider captain Liam Harrison added: “It has got to be something serious with not being allowed to see him like you normally would if somebody is in the physio room.

“I believe he is talking and I understand his mum and dad are there, but to have an air ambulance come and flown down to Preston there must be some concern.

“Lee has just come back from an injury and I just hope he is well, and I give all the support to his family."
