HNGU suspends Adesh Pal for financial irregularity
PALANPUR: The executive committee (EC) of Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU) headed by vice-chancellor Ratanlal Godara has suspended the head of English department Adesh Pal for financial irregularities. Pal is also director of the Indian diaspora department at HNGU and former vice-chancellor of Gujarat University.
Registrar of HNGU Dilip Patel said, "EC in its meeting on Saturday appointed a three-member committee headed by retired district judge K M Vin who will give its report in three months.
The other two members are professor Navin Patel and professor Rohit Vora of Law College working in colleges in Ahmedabad and Modasain Aravalli district.
Patel added, "Pal had taken an advance to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh in 2009 for publishing three books. But even after five years he remained silent on the matter of use of the money. He could publish just one book instead of the three proposed." He said that Pal gave no reason for not publishing the books. The EC had personally asked the professor to appear before it to clarify his stand. Pal's clarification that the books will be published within four to five months could hardly convince the EC that took a stringent view. The EC contended that the financial irregularity came to light during audit.
