Running out of charge is a common complaint among users of mobile devices. A team of students from the Pondicherry Engineering College sought to address this issue through their project ‘V-SHARE,’ which has won them the second prize in the all-India Unisys Cloud 20/20 Version 6.0 contest.

Nisha O., Pavithraa P. and Sujitha G. cleared several rounds of evaluation which included technical project submissions, telephone interviews, and remote project demonstrations via video conference, said a press release from Unisys.

The students were supported by project guides from Unisys and the college. More than 1,400 teams from colleges across the country participated in the contest.

The project by the girls’ team aimed to minimise power consumption while streaming and downloading videos from the cloud on mobile devices.

Unisys Cloud 20/20 Version 6.0 is said to be one of India’s largest online technical contests which recognises innovative thinking in ‘addressing the technical challenges of the latest disruptive IT trends,’ said the release.

Projects look at application development for the cloud, security issues and big data in the cloud, system programming, cloud-based testing, open source and potential future technologies.

Unisys India also announced employment opportunities within the company for the finalist teams, subject to their eligibility and availability.

Their project ‘V-SHARE’ won the second prize in the all-India competition
