One does not become a teacher merely by communicating textbook lessons in a classroom. It takes enormous dedication to be a good teacher, said Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice N. Rammohan Rao, on Saturday.

He was addressing a meeting organised in connection with release of a book Pracheena Gnanam—Adhunika Antardrushtulu (Ancient Wisdom—Modern Insights) authored by V. Koteswaramma, the founder Director of Montessori Educational Institutions.

Justice Rao recalled tales of Ms. Koteswaramma’s dedication that had resulted in the rapid development of the Montessori institutions.

Recounting a childhood incident, he said years back when he was a school boy studying in a Municipal High School in Vijayawada city, Ms. Koteswaramma had organised an essay writing competition in which he had bagged the first prize. Citing passages from the book which has liberal dose of quotes of great personalities like Ramana Maharshi and Vivekananda, he said the work was a delightful blend of ancient wisdom and the insights of both modern science and contemporary thought.

Former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad presided over the meeting while senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao, Dean, School of Life Sciences, Montessori Mahila Kalasala, N. Lakshmi also spoke.
