Thamizhisai permeated the pristine halls of Raja Muthiah Mandram, as it celebrates the second day of its 40{+t}{+h}anniversary festival.

The singer was T.K.S. Kalaivanan, accompanied by Sachidanandam on the violin, Dr. Thyagarajan on the mridangam and Dindigul S. Kandavel on the moharsingh.

The audience enjoyed the Tamil lyrics of Muthuthandavar, T.S. Sambandham and for a large part the kritis of Dandapani Desikar.

The singer dwelt longer on keeravani ragam and the violinist followed suit faithfully. The percussive team made good use of their solo time.

The singer’s neraval for the lines “Raja Muthaiane” for the kriti on the patron of arts was appreciated by all assembled. Tharangini’s Shobana Balachandra and her students Kalpana, Krupalakshmi, Janani and others danced to ‘Thamizhisai’ during the second half of the programme.

A disciple of Dananjayan, Shobana demonstrated the movements and aspiration of the male and the female, by portraying Shiva, then Shakthi and finally showing them in juxtaposition as Ardhanareeshwara.

The fine footwork was perfect to the emotive facial expressions of the young dancers. The intricate design of their red costume along with suitable accessories added to the beauty of the presentation.
