Car falls off ITO bridge, 33-year-old man dead

A 33-year-old man died when his car fell into the Yamuna riverbed from ITO bridge in East Delhi on Friday night.

According to the police, it is suspected that Ajju Kumar was in an inebriated at the time of the accident. However, it has not been confirmed so far as the post-mortem report is still awaited, said a police officer.

“Some commuters on the ITO bridge saw a speeding car falling into the riverbed around 10.30 p.m. One of them called up the police control room and reported the incident,” an officer said.

The police and fire officials started a rescue operation at the spot, and rushed the victim to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in East Delhi. He was declared brought dead. Ajju was a resident of Guru Ram Dass Nagar in East Delhi.

In another incident reported late on Friday night, a 60-year-old man was crushed to death in North-East Delhi’s New Usmanpur.

Hira Lal was a vendor near Red Fort and resided in Seelampur. He was reportedly crossing the street near Dharampura traffic signal, when an unidentified vehicle allegedly crushed him to death. A case has been registered, said a police officer.
