On International Women's Day on 8th March, 11 cities will hear the roar of freedom. BCCL Language Brands - Navbharat Times, Maharashtra Times, Ei Samay, Nav Gujarat Samay and Vijay Karnataka that are sister publications of TOI, will conduct the third edition of the 'All Women Bike Rally' to reclaim the country as being safe for women.
This concept was initiated in 2013 with the first All Women Bike Rally in Delhi followed by similar rallies in other cities like Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai and Kolkata.
It was awarded the INMA (Global Marketing Award) in the Category of Best use of an event to build a news.
In the second edition in 2014, 13 cities participated in even higher numbers. This year's rally will be conducted across Delhi, Lucknow, Thane, Nagpur, Pune, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Ahmadabad, Nasik, Bangalore and Kolkata.
There has been an overwhelming response with thousands registering for the same (this can be done by logging to womenbikerally.nbt.in and on-the-spot at the venue). Organizations from different sectors have also pledged their support to the rally
This is a platform for women to proudly announce that there is no barrier that can hold them back, and their way of asserting that women are truly unstoppable in whatever they choose to do.
In Delhi, the rally will be flagged off by home minister Rajnath Singh at 4pm. Bollywood superstar Juhi Chawla, TV star Lavina Tondon, who plays Rukaiya begum in the Jodha Akbar historical drama and pop star Shibani Kashyap, will also be at the event. The event has been supported by Radisson Plaza Hotel Mahipalpur, New Delhi.
