Episode 48 of Fairy Tail 2, titled “Here Comes Kemokemo,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, FUNimation, and Hulu for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on March 13th.
The episode begins with a typical job routine, but I can call this “animal cruelty” when Capricorn beats the living s—t out of an anthropomorphic crocodile monster. I shook my head in humor when Capricorn beat the monster within the inch of his life just to grab one scale.
Rhetorically asking, why didn’t they grab the rest of the monster’s scales?
Victory is short-lived when a large egg crash lands on Natsu’s face.
The egg hatched, but I laughed when Natsu and Happy were physically exhausted trying to take care of the creature.
I laughed when Happy looked like complete s—t. I think Happy has lost a couple of years off life.
The episode gets its title from the name, Kemokemo, which Natsu gives the mysterious creature.
Kemokemo obviously triggers a filler arc because it is growing at a fast rate and is able to breathe out fire. I laughed when Makarov was sitting right in front of Kemokemo when it happened, but I am amazed that Erza and Makarov think it’s a dog.
The “exchange student” program by the Magic Council surprised me.
Team Natsu, minus Wendy and Carla, volunteer themselves. I laughed when the first stop happened to be at the Blue Pegasus guild.
I was shocked, but not surprised at the fact that Blue Pegasus doubled as a host & hostess club. If you didn’t know, they are popular in Japan. The fact that the Trimens dressed fashionably should have been a dead giveaway.
I laughed that this was a simple job that Natsu and Erza easily screw up.
I laughed harder when the customers mistake Kemokemo for a dog only for it to breath a column of fire in front of them. I laughed when Team Natsu got kicked out of Blue Pegasus for it.
I laughed as Lyon, when Team Natsu visited Lamia Scale, inquired to Gray on when he plans on marrying Juvia. It seems that Lyon has not given up on trying to romance Juvia. I laughed when Team Natsu also got kicked out Lamia Scale only moments after they have visited.
Team Natsu effectively goes on a “world trip” as they visit Mermaid Heel next.
Erza is reunited with Milianna, who is preoccupied with Happy. I laughed when Erza tried to get Kagura to acknowledge her as “big sister.”
I busted out laughing when Team Natsu did the same work for Mermaid Heel like when they did for Blue Pegasus, but with Natsu and Gray dressing in drag.
I am always amazed by Erza’s overconfidence and ignorance when it comes to simple situations. That didn’t work well as they are subtly kicked out from Mermaid Heel. I guess that the sisterly bond between Erza and Milianna can only go so far.
Team Natsu visits Quatre Cerberus only to receive a lukewarm reception from the guild members and a disappointed reception from Bacchus. I think Bacchus secretly wants to f—k Cana and uses drinking as a pretense.
I laughed when Kemokemo blew a hole right through the wall when Bacchus picked a fight with Natsu.
S—t ultimately hits the fan when Sting Eucliff from Sabertooth announces that the program is canceled because of the mysterious island. It is obvious that the arrival of the island is connected to Kemokemo’s appearance and I assume that they are both connected with the stone tablets that Jura was trying to investigate at Lamia Scale.
This was before Gray and Lyon accidentally smashed the tablets into small pieces during their brawl.
I am glad that there is finally a new story arc even if it is a filler arc. I am hoping that this will be better than the Celestial Spirits filler arc.
