Efforts on to get cancer research institute for Kanyakumari

Efforts are on to get a super speciality hospital or a cancer research institute for Kanyakumari district, according to Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan.

Addressing reporters at his residence here on Friday, the Minister said that the announcement in the Union Budget on establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences-type super specialty hospital was a gift and it could be developed as a centre for medical research. Efforts are on to bring a super specialty hospital or a Cancer Research Centre for Kanyakumari district.

The Minister said that the Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated express corridor project was hanging fire for quite a long time and the State government should take pro-active steps to find a speedy solution.

If the corridor came into existence, traffic on this route would ease, he also said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also informed that Rs. 130-crore had been allocated for construction of flyovers in Parvathipuram, Marthandam and Suchindram in Kanyakumari district.
