Get ready to spring forward — daylight saving time starts this weekend

Nothing says "spring is almost here" like the beginning of daylight saving time.

That's right — it's that time of year again. Daylight saving time begins this Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m., so don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.

You should also stock up on the coffee and brace yourself for an extra-tiring work week next week. "Springing ahead" means that the clock will say 8 a.m. on Monday morning, but you'll still feel like it's 7 a.m.

Some studies have shown that the transition to daylight saving time can actually have a negative effect on your health, making you sleepier and less productive. A few studies even found a spike in heart attacks following the start of Daylight Saving Time, although it's hard to say for sure whether this was caused by DST.

On the bright side, we'll soon be enjoying longer, sunnier evenings — a sure sign that spring, and an end to the winter weather, is just around the corner.
