Two killed

Four persons were killed caused by lightning in various parts of the district on Wednesday.

Chinnasamy (55), a farmer of Pikkili Kollapatty in Paparapatty, was killed while he was standing under a tree after taking his goats to a pen.

Chinnamadu alias Chinnamal of the same area was killed while she was tying her cattle under a shelter. Two other deaths were reported from Palacodde, and four others were injured. In a release here, Anbumani Ramadoss, MP, said Rs. 10 lakh each should be given to the kin of the deceased, and Rs. 3 lakh each to the injured.

Life term

The district sessions court here sentenced Mahendran (45) to life term for killing Arumugam (60) of Podur in Pennagaram. A wordy duel regarding grazing goats culminated in Mahendran, and wife Sevvandhi attacking Arumugam. He died later. The court acquitted Sevvandhi, and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 too on Mahendran.
