Officials of the Directorate of Urban Land Transport inspecting a junction in Mandyaon Thursday.

The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) officials on Thursday inspected several junctions and suggested to the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) to scientifically design/develop junctions and footpaths.

The CMC proposes to take up various development projects in congested areas of the city and it had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the DULT, recently.

Arati, Assistant Director of DULT, and Pranesh, executive engineer, visited a few junctions along the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and suggested to the CMC to resubmit the DPR after incorporating some corrections.

The officials visited Mandya to examine the feasibility of the projects.

They have suggested to the CMC to improve footpaths to make them pedestrian-friendly and ensure free movement of traffic on the highway, R. Prathap, executive engineer of CMC, told The Hindu.

The officials had also suggested that infrastructure be improved/upgraded as per the Indian Road Congress Standards (IRCS), N.M. Shashikumar, Commissioner of CMC, said.

The civic authority would take up development projects at a cost of Rs. 4.82 crore. While the DULT would be funding 60 per cent of the project cost, the CMC would bear the remaining cost, he said.
