Defence minister Manohar Parrikar will attend
Holi celebrations at
Azad Maidan in Panaji on Friday organized by Panaji
Shigmotsav Committee (PSC). The former Panaji MLA has always been a regular at the holi celebration in Panaji.
Shrinivas Dempo who heads the PSC told mediapersons, “Not once did Parrikar intervene in the functioning of the committee, and whenever he called, it was to enquire if we needed any help,” said Dempo.
New Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker will also be part of the Holi celebration that will start on March 6 by offering prayers to Goddess Laxmi, followed by a procession of Romtamel from Shree Mahalaxmi temple to Azad Maidan.
Dempo said this year they will approach private companies seeking
sponsorship to increase the prize money.
The PSC has also lined up a host of cultural programmes to be held from March 6. On March 12, an orchestra by Omkar melodies, and a musical programme on March 13, will have artistes from Mumbai and Pune performing .
On March 14, there will be a float parade beginning from Kala Academy and culminating at Azad Maidan whereas on March 16, a Lavni programme has been organized.
This year, the committee will felicitate three artists who have contributed to the growth of Goa’s cultural heritage. tnn
