I never imagined I would be in demand in M-Town

Sekhar Menon is part of two much anticipated movies to be released this year — Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohammed’s 100 Days of Love and Ajmal’s Kanthari.
While he plays a gamer and a friend to Dulquer in the former, his character in the latter is something different from the usual.
“I play someone called Ameer Hussain, who has a degenerative bone disease. His bones get weaker by the day, and the film is all about what happens next after the diagnosis.That’s all I’m allowed to say,” says the DJ-actor. Rachana Narayanankutty plays the lead character in the film, which has women in the major roles.
Meanwhile, Sekhar is happy to have shared screen space with Dulquer Salmaan, who was a friend even before both of them turned to acting. “In fact, I was supposed to be the DJ for Dulquer’s wedding, but I couldn’t make it owing to prior commitments. I still regret it. But now things have come full circle, and we are acting in the same film!”
However, working in the film apparently turned out to be something entirely different from what they expected once the shoot began. “When we read the script, we found nothing extraordinary about it. But soon we realised that Jenuse has a different perspective altogether. His angle makes everything look different. After all, it runs in the genes,” quips Sekhar.
And what next on the film front? “Well, I was someone who considered acting as fun; I thought I’ll get back to my music and routine after my first movie. I never imagined I would be in demand in M-Town. I am not so keen on doing as many films as possible. I plan to take up only those films where my character is solid.”
So does that mean he regrets taking up a film like Gangster which received negative reviews? “Never. I got a lot of appreciation for my role; it’s just that the film didn’t work out. But then, we have people who question even Christopher Nolan,” he says.
Sekhar is planning to concentrate on music for a while, and is making two music albums with Shahabaz Aman.
