These patients were shifted to Ahmedabad for the want of treatment. The state health department — in reply to Sanand MLA Karamsinh Patel — has said the transfers took place over the past year. The government said that since Civil Hospital, Gandhinagar, was getting a medical college, infrastructure and other facilities will be upgraded.

In another question, posed by Dariyapur MLA, the state said that in two years — from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2014 — the Rogi Kalyan Samiti received Rs 19.26 crore of which Rs 13 crore was used for the welfare of patients admitted in civil hospitals.
