AMU gets top grade from NAAC

AMU vice-chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah congratulated the university students, faculty members and non-teaching staff on the “historic achievement.” He said it was a collective effort of all members of the university fraternity, which created a niche for AMU amongst the best universities in India.

Urging the AMU community to work harder, Shah said all efforts will be made to garner the first position amongst all universities and institutions of higher learning when AMU goes for a second cycle of assessment after five years.

AMU officials said the 95-year-old institution was graded for the first time after the University Grants Commission (UGC) made NAAC accreditation mandatory, failure of which would lead to universities being penalised along with suspension of grants by April 1, 2015.

A high profile NAAC peer team led by Professor G N Qazi, V-C of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi visited AMU from February 9-12 this year and carried a comprehensive assessment of the university on various yardsticks.

During the four-day stay on the campus, the NAAC team visited various departments of studies, colleges, centres, halls of residence, playgrounds, and interacted with several members of the AMU community including students, teachers, non-teaching staff, alumni, parents of students and members of Executive Council and Academic Council.
