Traffic leads to cracks along Cart Road again

SHIMLA: Major cracks have appeared near the high court on Cart Road-the main artery of Shimla town-resulting into disruption in traffic.
Construction of a parking lot along Cart Road is resulting in frequent cracks on this stretch. Some months ago, a portion of the road collapsed due to the under construction parking lot and at that time too, people had a tough time in travelling as traffic was diverted from different routes.
Shimla has around 80,000 registered vehicle besides equal number of tourist vehicles entering the town on a daily basis during tourist season and they all use Cart road To move towards Sanjauli, Kufri, Naldehra, Narkanda and Kinnaur.
Deputy commissioner Dinesh Malhotra said alternate arrangement had been made for smooth flow of traffic. He said that smaller vehicles have been allowed to move from high court and Oakover to Chhota Shimla, while vehicles heading towards Sanjauli would go through Victory Tunnel and Lakkar Bazaar.
He said that vehicles coming from Sanjauli side would move from Khalini Chowk to national highway. He said this arrangement would continue to ensure smooth flow of traffic and convenience to residents.
