Uttar Pradesh minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan found himself embroiled in yet another controversy after he reportedly drove a bus packed with students inside a university campus in state’s Rampur town, about 350 kilometers from here.

It later turned out that the minister did not have the licence to drive a heavy vehicle.
The opposition parties have sought registration of a case against Azam Khan for endangering the lives of the students and others who were in the bus.

According to sources, Khan had on Tuesday launched Lohia Bus Service inside Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, which has been founded by him.

The minister, much to the surprise of those present at the launch function, took the keys and occupied the driving seat. There were a large number of students and teachers in the bus. Initially everyone thought that the minister’s act was merely symbolic.

Khan, however, drove the bus for some distance. Though most the ride was inbcident free, the bus, at the fag end of the journey, got stuck at a road divider inside the varsity campus.

“The post of minister does not mean that Khan is above the law. He has no right to endanger the lives of the students and teacher. He must be acted against,” said BJP leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak on Wednesday.

The police at Rampur have not registered any case so far.
Khan has courted controversies on several occasions by his outbursts against the state governor Ram Naik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even Naik had sought action against him.
