Mounties are investigating after a young woman was knocked unconscious and robbed while jogging in a Victoria suburb Wednesday evening.

The 23-year-old victim was on a running trail in Langford near Shoreview Drive when an unknown man approached her and asked for the time.

She was then knocked out and robbed of her cell phone and cash. The RCMP said she wasn’t sexually assaulted but did suffer bruises.

“This woman was simply out jogging, minding her own business, and unfortunately was attacked,” Const. Alex Berube said.

“She was able to regain consciousness and walk away from the scene and seek help.”

West Shore RCMP and police dog service members searched the area but couldn’t track down a suspect, and only a few descriptive details have been provided.

Mounties said the suspect was an adult wearing a jacket that made “a squishy sound” and gloves.

Investigators believe the attack was random, but are urging people who use trails in the area to travel in pairs and stick to lit paths.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the West Shore RCMP detachment at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
