Sahanur’s wife gets bail in Burdwan blast case
Guwahati: Sahanur Alom’s wife Sujana Begum, who is suspected to be a trained Jammat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadre, has been set free after a lower court granted her bail recently. Assam Police’s special operation wing (SOU) has failed to file a chargesheet against her in the estimated 90 days’ time.
A close aide of Sujana said she was granted bail as Assam Police did not object to it. Sujana was arrested in November last year from the Inter-state bus terminus at Gorchuk here.
A police source said, “Sujana was arrested under several sections of IPC and even Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.”
The NIA, which is investigating the Burdwan blast incident, had said Sujana is a key accused in the case. An NIA source said, “She received jihadi training at a madrassa in West Bengal and was recruiting jihadi elements in the lower Assam districts.”
Sujana’s husband and prime blast accused, Sahanur, is currently in a jail in West Bengal. He was taken to the neighbouring state after NIA sought his transit remand.
The lower court rejected Sahanur’s bail plea after police sought extension of his judicial custody. However, another key accused in the case and JMB cadre Zakaria Ali was granted bail in the case.
