CHENNAI: A group of DMDK supporters created a ruckus in front of the office of Tamil magazine 'Kumudham' on Purasaiwalkam High Road on Wednesday morning after the magazine published a story that said the party had a bleak future.
About 50 activists of DMDMK, shouting slogans, blocked the entrance of the magazine's office, and squatted on the road, disrupting traffic for about half-an-hour.
They also tore posters of the magazine, pasted outside the gates. As soon as the party workers carrying party flags reached the entrance, the security staff closed the gates to prevent them from entering the newsroom.
A few of them threw stones at the office gates. Some others burned copies of the magazine. The Kumudham story had argued that DMDMK was in a bad shape and that it may soon be dissolved and merged with BJP. Police who reached the spot stopped the cadres from entering the office. After about 30 minutes, they dispersed.
DMDK legislators had last week lodged a complaint with the city police commissioner saying some people were mocking at their leader Vijayakanth on the social media platform. Now the party has started using social media to post messages against the Tamil magazine. In an apparent tit-for-tat, some DMDK supporters have posted a cartoon on the social media saying the magazine was closing down due to financial constraints.
