Mayfield builder fined Rs 30L for power theft
GURGAON: Mayfield Garden's builder Sheetal International has been served a notice for power theft and slapped a fine of Rs 30 lakh after a vigilance team of discom DHBVN raided the colony's J block on Tuesday and found it had been supplying water to some 350 houses using stolen electricity.
The developer has been asked to pay up within 48 hours or else an FIR will be lodged against it for power theft, officials told TOI on Wednesday.

DHBVN's executive engineer (vigilance) Pramod Singla said that the raid was conducted following a tip-off that the developer had been illegally drawing power from the main line to run a motor to supply water to the 350 houses in the J block. "That power supply was disconnected in September last year after the developer failed to pay electricity bill, amounting to over Rs 8 lakh, for several months despite several notices," he said.
Singla added, "During the raid on Tuesday, we seized cables used to draw power supply directly from the main line and slapped a penalty for power theft. We have asked Sheetal International to pay Rs 30 lakh, including the outstanding of Rs 10 lakh (Rs 8.32 lakh plus interest) within 48 hours."
According to the official, an FIR will be lodged against the builder for power theft if it does not pay up the fine.
However, residents of J block say they have been in distress since the power supply has been disconnected
. "The developer has deserted the colony, disowning responsibility of upkeep
. Residents are now left to fend for themselves. We have arranged for water tankers for now, but how long can we depend on tankers?
The discom also won't give any new electricity connections to the colony due to the builder's negligence,
" president of Sheetal RWA Dharamvir Yadav said.
The builder could not be contacted for a comment.
