Bill Plante Returning to Selma, 50 Years Later

By Brian Flood

CBS Senior White House Correspondent Bill Plante was a young CBS News reporter in 1965 as the march from Montgomery to Selma occurred. Plante even interviewed Martin Luther King Jr. as they crossed the bridge.

Well, this Saturday Plante is returning to Selma to interview President Barack Obama on the the 50th anniversary of the march. Excerpts of the interview will broadcast later that day on the “CBS Evening News” and on Sunday’s editions of “CBS Sunday Morning” and “Face the Nation.”

“60 Minutes Overtime” ran a piece about Plante’s story that features original footage from 1965. Check it out here.
