VIENNA, March 4 (KUNA) -- Kuwait has expressed regret that the UN nuclear watchdog is not being allowed to investigate the activities of North Korea's Yongbyon nuclear facility.
The Kuwait Embassy in Austria's Third Secretary Yasin Al-Majed told a International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting that it was regrettable that developments in that facility can only be assessed by satellite surveillance.
"Kuwait calls on North Korea, with urgent effect, to cooperate with the IAEA in executing the assurances agreement according to the Non-Proliferation Treaty in a complete and effective manner," Al-Majed said.
Resolving impending issues, including allowing IAEA inspectors to assess North Korea's nuclear activities, was also urged by Al-Majed, who said that the IAEA is the sole body in charge of the role.
He said that Kuwait supports and is fully confident of the crucial role assumed by the nuclear watchdog, and its effective capabilities in tackling challenges. (end) mq.sd
