If you're looking for a quiet cafe with quality food to spend a cozy evening, look no further than Ziona, a charming restaurant-cafe in Nes Ziona.
The small restaurant manages to keep a quiet ambiance despite being located off a busy main road. When you walk in, the potted plants, comfy chairs and other home-like decor make you feel relaxed as if you are visiting family. Yet the strung lights add a certain romantic twinkle to the cafe, making it a perfect place for an intimate date night.
Now, getting down to business: the food is fantastic. The kosher dairy menu offers a wide variety of both fresh and satisfying dishes, that leave both vegetarians and meat eaters alike satiated.
After we were seated, the waitress brought out a variety of fresh, warm homemade breads to the table, along with some butter as well as olives and lemon. It was so delicious we found it difficult to hold back from eating the entire basket before our first courses arrived.
Start off with one of the kitchen’s delightful appetizers. The refreshingly tangy grilled artichoke with yogurt, reduced balsamic vinegar, pesto, tomatoes and sea salt (44nis) was our sure favorite. For something a bit more hearty try the “burnt potato salad,” with reduced balsamic vinegar, green onions, pesto, tomatoes and sour cream alioli. The creative twist on the classic dish feels a bit more grown up, and definitely tastier, than the potato salad you remember from childhood picnics.
Creative flavor combinations rule the salad menu. Ziona’s “green salad” includes lettuce, rocket, spinach, basil, mint, grains, pears and brie cheese in a homemade mustard vinaigrette (58 nis). It’s much more than you expect from a simple green salad, but the combination of flavors meld perfectly.
If you’ve ever lived in the American South the“Old day’s polenta” will make you feel right at home (56 nis). Even if you've never even visited the States give this dish a try-- the  creamy combo of Georgian cheese, Parmesan, mushrooms and asparagus is tasty and warms you up from the inside out.
The cafe has extensive fish dish options, but these choices are far outshone by the homemade pizzas and pastas. The grilled pepper pizza (58 nis) with red onions, basil, tomatoes and mozzarella will leave even the pickiest pizza connoisseur satisfied. The crispy dough crust, sweet tomato sauce and gooey cheese are reminiscent of authentic Italian pizzerias.
Top it all off with a homemade sweet from the kitchen or coffee. Whether you're enjoying a quiet evening with friends or spending a romantic evening with a date, Tziona cafe will make you feel right at home.
